Unfortunately, in 2024 several ongoing armed conflicts are impacting regions across the globe. One in seven people worldwide is estimated to have been exposed to conflict between July 2023 and 2024, as fifty countries rank in the index categories for extreme, high or turbulent levels of conflict, according to ACLED. Natural environment has always been a hidden victim of such conflicts, well under the shadow of human casualties and reconstruction needs, presenting long lasting damage, as post-war environmental impact is a factor usually not taken into account.
CRETE 2025 is focusing on explosives-contaminated soil and water characterization and remediation, making a special call on the submission of abstracts dealing with this particular topic.
